Bomb Scare At Lincoln Community School

Last Friday there was been a bomb scare at the Lincoln Community School, Abelenkpe, a suburb of Accra.

According to information provided ADM by witnesses, there was a telephone call from an unknown person claiming that a bomb had been planted somewhere on the school premises and could explode at any time. Security men were immediately deployed to the school to evacuate the school children and see to their safety.

When an ADM team visited the school it was denied entry by a team of security men from the Inter-Con Security Systems, a private security firm who were guarding the gates of the school.

According to the Post Commander Mr. Richard Sowah, military and police officers had been deployed on the campus and they did not want any interference from the public. "We have been warned not to allow any pressman entry and that is exactly what we are doing so kindly bear with us" he said.

"Even your colleagues from Choice FM came here but we could not allow them in, which they understood and left." he added.

However, the ADM talked to some of the teachers. One of them who pleaded anonymity, said the school administration received a call from an unknown source around 9:00 am with the information that a bomb had been planted on the campus and could explode at any time.

According to the teacher, the caller called again around 10:15 am with the same message but failed to mention his name and place he was calling from. "Alarmed, we quickly evacuated the pupils and called in the security officials" the teacher said.

According to her, they are now somehow relieved because the security men and other experts they invited had not come across anything. "I may conclude that it is more or less a hoax".

Some of the military and police officers detailed to the campus were seen upstairs, some on the roof searching for the "bomb".

A senior police officer spoke to ADM said they could not come across anything during the search and was optimistic that the phone call might be a hoax.

Lincoln International is a school that follows US teaching methods and caters for children of diplomats and high earning Ghanaians.
