Bole district hospital mortuary breaks down

The mortuary at the Bole District Hospital has not been in operation for about a year now due to faulty machines, DAILY GUIDE has gathered.

The health facility has three fridges which are not being used presently.
The mortuary at the Bole District Hospital serves the people of Sawla, Damongo and surrounding communities, and there could be a disaster in the event of a major accident in the various towns.

When DAILY GUIDE visited the facility, it was discovered that the officials keep the bodies on the floor for a couple of days until the families come for them.

The paper learnt that when the bodies begin to decompose, the officials at the facility call the personnel of the Assembly’s Sanitation Unit to come for the bodies and bury them.

Anytime there is an accident on the road and the police do not locate relations of the deceased, the only option is to carry out mass burial.

Some personnel, who spoke to DAILY GUIDE on condition of anonymity, expressed dissatisfaction with the development.

It is a major problem for us because foreigners and accident victims from Burkina sometimes die at this facility. It’s always difficult to locate their families and so they just bury them because the hospital mortuary is not working, they claimed.

Speaking to DAILY GUIDE at the health facility, Dr. Joe said the hospital was built in the late 90s and that some parts of the building were weak.

He indicated that an officer of the Ministry of Health visited the facility to assess the machines at the mortuary and assured the hospital that the ministry would address the numerous problems immediately.

“The person who came here assured us that they will come back next week to resolve the problem and so I am sure the problem will be solved in no time,” he disclosed.
