Bodwesango market project inaugurated

Bodwesango (Ash), Feb. 10, GNA - The government in promoting the golden age of business at the rural areas is encouraging district assemblies to construct more markets in the communities.

Mr D.A.K. Yeboah, the Adansi East District Chief Executive said this at the commissioning of 182.1 million cedis market project at Bodwesango on Friday.

The project that is made up of 36-unit market stalls and 10-unit market stores was built under the second phase of the 5th EU micro project programme.

Mr Yeboah said the government recognised the inevitability of marketing as a source of prosperity and the development aspirations of the people.

He said the Bodwesango market was the fourth marketing centre to Fumso, New Edubiase and Praso in terms of revenue generation in the district but expressed concern about the low revenue been collected in the area.

The District Chief Executive wondered as to whether the revenue collectors pocket the chunk of their collection and declare just a minimal amount or failed work assiduously.

Mr Yeboah, therefore, appealed to the traders to collaborate with revenue collectors to generate more funds for the development of the area.

Mr Samuel Amoah, the District Development Planning Officer and Co-ordinator of the EU micro projects, said so far 56 districts in the country were engaged in the micro project programme.

He said the programme formed part of the partnership between the government and the European Union to reduce poverty in the country, especially in the rural communities.

Mr Amoah said the project was demand-driven and asked communities to initate their own projects to complement those by donors. Nana Adu Ampoti Dwaa II, Krontihene and regent of Bodwesango, appealed to the users of the market to pay their tolls regularly to enable the assembly to generate enough revenue for development.
