Boards, Councils under Ministry of Education urged to ensure quality

Accra, June 10, GNA - Mr Alex Tetteh-Enyo, Minister of Education, on Wednesday urged members of boards and councils under the ministry to rise up to their challenges to ensure quality education. He made the call during the inauguration of National Council for Tertiary Education, National Accreditation Board, National Service Board, Board of Trustees of the Student Loans Scheme and Ghana Library Board.

Mr Tetteh-Enyo advised members to exhibit qualities and experiences that would have significant bearing on the operations of the agencies to achieve their respective visions and missions. He said programmes imported from other countries must be customized and made relevant the nation.

The Minister urged board members to see to it that the profit motive of proprietors did not override the provision of relevant atmosphere for quality teaching and learning in the various institutions.

Mr Tetteh-Enyo said government would provide the needed support to enable them to carry out their functions without fear or favour. He tasked the agencies to perform their duties in accordance with the mandate given them by Acts of Parliament which created them. Mr Tetteh-Enyo said the Ministry was fully engaged in promoting and supporting the development of a balanced, integrated and holistic education.

"The government is therefore committed to marshalling the requisite resources to achieve its agenda for the education sector," he said. The Minister said private sector participation in the provision of tertiary education was yielding significant dividends and would continue to be supported by government.
