Bishop Allotey cautions against bashing of political leaders

Agona Kwanyako (C/R), April 24, GNA- The Right Reverend Daniel S. A. Allotey, Anglican Bishop of the Cape Coast Diocese has warned the media to stop what he called "bashing" of political leaders to promote democracy.

He said it was not fair for some of media houses to launch unsubstantiated allegations against people in political leadership for parochial reasons.

Bishop Allotey who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Agona Kwanyako after the ordination of Reverend Father Isaac Ampadu Danquah said the media must highlight news that would promote socio-economic, political and cultural development among other important issues.

On the country's general election scheduled for December this year, he urged Ghanaians to be thankful to God for the peace and stability in the country and advised them to do everything in their power to sustain and maintain the record.

Bishop Allotey reminded the people of the conflict in other African countries including the Rwanda massacre and appealed to the media to be circumspect in their reportage.

He commended Ghanaians for ensuring that for the first time an elected government handed over the reins of administration to another elected government in peace and described it as "real positive change" in the country's history.

Bishop Allotey disclosed that the Church was establishing a Teacher Training College at Anyanfuri in the Upper Denkyira District of the Central Region, adding that, arrangements had been made to take over abandoned structures of the former Ashanti Goldfields Company for the college.

He said a committee had been established for the establishment of a technical-biased University by the Church to help promote tertiary education relevant to the country's development. 24 April 04
