Birim Central basic schools improve performance in BECE

Basic schools in the Birim Central Municipality had improved their performance at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) from 53.7 per cent in 2013 to 71.2 per cent in 2014.

Mr Fred H. Kpoor, Municipal Director of Education, disclosed this in an interaction with the Ghana News Agency at Akyem Oda.

Giving a summary of results from 2013 to 2014, he said a total of 2,490 candidates registered for the BECE in 2013 as against 2,566 in 2014.

Mr Kpoor said 2,464 candidates wrote the examination in 2013 as against 2,554 in 2014.

“A total of 1,818 candidates passed in 2014 as against 1,324 in 2013, showing 71.2 per cent improvement,” he said.

He said 41 schools scored 100 per cent in 2014 as against 25 schools in 2013.

“A total of 39 candidates obtained aggregate six in 2014 as against 35 candidates in 2013,” he said.

Mr Kpoor congratulated all schools and stakeholders who contributed in diverse ways to improve on the percentage of the 2013 results, especially those who scored 100 per cent.

He urged those whose performance were below standards to study hard and raise the standard of education in the municipality.

“It is my fervent hope that all stakeholders in education in the municipality will join hands together for a better result in subsequent examinations,” he said.
