Berekum Nima boys clear image

The Berekum Muslim Youth Association, popularly known as Nima Boys, has refuted violent allegations leveled against it by a section of the public and media. The association says it stands for peace, unity and development of Berekum and its surrounding towns and villages.

The association also debunked allegation that it is a wing of the ruling NDC. The chairman of the association, Nuru Osman said this when he addressed a press conference at Berekum in reaction to a recent confrontation between the Berekum police and the association over the arrest of one of its members.

The association expressed worry that recently during a football match between Berlin FC and Moonlight FC at Berekum, one of their members, Baba Moro was attacked by a Berlin FC supporter, but when the matter was sent to court, Moro, who was seriously injured was rather remanded while the Berlin FC supporter was strangely discharged. That decision by the court compelled the Nima boys to demonstrate. They accused the police of associating violence with them and called on the public to see them as a decent group in the society.

Mr. Osman added that Nima boys believe in the rule of law and would not do anything to disturb the peaceful atmosphere in Berekum. The association also denied ever receiving instruction from anybody to assault some journalists of Space FM.

Rumours had it that some journalists with Space FM were on the hit list of the Nima boys.

The said journalists including the News Editor and chief reporter, were said to be running down the NDC government and subsequently marked to be manhandled by the Nima boys who many believe are closely knit to the NDC. Mr. Osman pointed out that the association is ready to assist the police in fighting crime in the society sine they know most of the criminals and their hideouts.
