Benyiwa Doe urges public to demand accountability from DCEs

Breman Nwomaso (C/R), April 3, GNA - The Central Regional Minister, Madam Ama Benyiwa Doe, on Friday cautioned that the District Assemblies' Common Fund is not meant for the personal benefits of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief executives. She said any act that would impede the development of the districts should be discouraged and that the public should be vigilant and demand accountability from them to serve as a check. Madam Benyiwa Doe, who was speaking at the annual Okyir festival of the chiefs and people of Breman Nwomaso in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District, said DCEs should also be held responsible for the underdevelopment of their areas if they failed to utilize both the financial and natural resources to facilitate the progress of their communities.

On education, the minister appealed to parents to invest in the education of their children and show genuine interest in their general well being because education could shape their lives and future for the benefit not only of their communities but the country at large. She said it was premature to judge the government and said it would live up to expectation. Nana Odanfo Akyen IV, Chief of Nwomaso, said the community would support the government to ensure the development of the region. The Minister also visited Jamra, a nearby town, where the chief, Nana Tutu III, expressed concern about the high level of poverty in the area and that the town needed to be assisted to develop.
