BECE, foundation for further education - Director

Nkoranza (B/A), April 16, GNA - Madam Philippa Banson, Nkoranza South District Drector of Education, has stated that the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) laid the foundation for the youth to pursue further education in the second cycle and tertiary institutions.

Madam Banson made the observation when she led the District Chief executives for Nkoranza South and Nkoranza North, Mr. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum and Mr. Kwadwo Agyei-Dwomor, respectively, on a tour of centres for the on-going BECE in the two districts. The tour was aimed at studying the environment of the centres and to encourage the candidates.

The District Director urged the candidates to aspire to Senior High Schools and Technical Institutes so they could achieve high educational levels and become responsible citizens.

Madam Banson expressed concern about how some final year students of Junior High Schools put up undisciplined behaviour on completion of the BECE and advised such students to desist from the practice. "Some of you take to organizing dances at the end of the examination, drink alcohol and engage in other social vices that can subsequently have a negative toll on your lives", she cautioned. The District Director advised the students to lead decent lives in the communities as role models for their younger siblings to emulate.

"Parents become proud when their children lead modest lives and command respect in the society", she said and cautioned the girls to avoid pre-marital sex. Madam Banson also called on the students to respect their parents and to assist them to win their continued support for their education. She appealed to parents to invest more of their resources in the education of their children.
