Atwima-Nwabiagya assembly presents television sets to schools

Nkawie (Ash), March 8, GNA - The Atwima-Nwabiagya District Assembly has presented coloured televisions sets worth over 10 million cedis to three schools for outstanding performance during the march past to commemorate the 48th Independence anniversary held at Nkawie. The schools were Nkawie-Panin Anglican Primary, Toase Junior Secondary and Abuakwa New Site Cataab Vocational Training Institute. Six other schools from the primary, JSS and second cycle categories also received wall clocks.

The march past awards scheme, instituted about three years ago by the assembly, was sponsored by the OCADS Consult, a quantity survey firm in Kumasi, P.W. Ghanem, a road construction firm, Consar Stone Quarry at Barekese, Bachor Construction Company in Kumasi and Dr Kwaa of Nkawie Clinic.

Addressing the parade, Mr Charles Yeboah, the acting District Chief Executive, said democracy could adequately promote peace and unity if individuals, groups and organisations submerged their sectional and parochial interests.

The government, Mr Yeboah said, is committed to the effective promotion of a vibrant economy to improve the lives of Ghanaians and called for the people's total support and co-operation.

Mrs Grace Kakute, Principal of Cataab Vocational Training Institute, spoke on behalf of the award winners and thanked the assembly for instituting the march past awards which she said had rekindled the interest and enthusiasm of pupils and students in the district in the march past.
