Atuna community pleads to be connected to the national grid

Atuna (B/A), July 4, GNA - Mr Daniel Pobi, Assembly Member for Atuna in Jaman South has appealed to the District Assembly to expedite action on the electrification project of the community. He noted that the absence of electricity in the area had given rise to immoral and criminal activities and a stall in social and economic activities.

Speaking to Ghana News Agency in an interview, the Assembly member noted that the Assembly had the project in its plans but urged that it should be speeded up to stem the tide of unpleasant happenings in the area.

During investigations by the GNA, it was revealed that as a result of the absence of electricity, an unscrupulous person under the cover of darkness "decorated" more than 100 okro fruits on their stocks with condoms.

A section of the youth are disappointed that lack of electricity in the town had escalated moral decadence amongst some of them, especially the girls.

"Pre-marital sex, teenage pregnancy, theft, among other crimes, are the order of the day and this does not augur well for a progressive town like this", one of them who declined to identify himself said. At an emergency meeting, the youth resolved to help uplift the image of the town by exploring every avenue to contribute their quota towards the connection of the town to the national electricity grid. 4 July 06
