Assin North Technical SHS celebrates 25th anniversary

Dr Kwaku Asiedu, Principal of the Fosu College of Education has said, quality education was the responsibility of all stakeholders in the educational sector.

He said “government, the Ghana Education Service, teaching and non-teaching staff as well as parents and the students themselves have significant roles to play in this effort”.

Nana Asiedu said this during a grand durbar at Assin Asempanaye to commemorate the 25th anniversary and Speech and Prize-giving Day of the Assin North Senior High Technical School.

The theme for the occasion was: “Enhancing Quality Education – The Role of the Stakeholder.”

Nana Asiedu expressed concern about the role of parents in ensuring quality education in all the schools and advised them to spend quality time and resources for the effective performance of their wards, adding that, since education holds the key to the development of every nation it behoves on parents to do all within their power to ensure that the schools churn out well trained citizens.

Mr Charles Rufus Quansah, the Headmaster of the School, appealed to government to speed up the process of confirming the status of the school adding that with a population of 800 students, resident in the school campus, it was proper that they receive a boarding school status.

He said the school has only two bungalows, one for the headmaster and the other for his assistant which he said was inadequate, adding that the school has no staff quarters and that all the teachers come from town...he appealed for other facilities such as science and computer laboratories to ensure effective teaching and learning in the school.

Mr Patrick Agyekum, Chairman of the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), stressed the need for all stakeholders of the school to sacrifice to build the school into a place of excellence in the Central Region.

He commended the PTA members for their untiring support in bringing the progress of the school this far and urged them to continue with their good works till the school takes its rightful place in education in the country.

Nana Pra Agyensem VI, Omanhene of Owirenkyiman Traditional Area in the Central Region and a Member of the Council of State, urged the students to develop the spirit of voluntarism as a sign of their commitment to their community and the nation at large.

He said since the government alone cannot shoulder the development of communities in the country, it was important that Ghanaians develop the attitude of self-help in order to realise the dream of aspiring to become a developed nation.

Prizes were awarded to students, teaching and non-teaching staff of the school who excelled in their various fields of endeavour including Mr Isaac Brewu, a businessman based in Koforidua and a native of Asempanaye for his continued support towards the progress and development of the school.

Other dignitaries who graced the occasion were the Assin North Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Alex Antwi Boasiako and the Municipal Director of Education, Madam Vida Odoom.

The MCE later donated a 43-inch television set to the school.**
