Assemblyman calls for funds to complete ongoing projects

Accra, June 14, GNA - The Assembly-member for Social Welfare Electoral Area in Madina in Accra, has expressed the need for the District Assemblies to allocate part of their share of the District Assemblies' Common Fund to complete ongoing projects.

Mr Braimah Ismaila Blay, who made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Madina, said the measure would help remove the backlog of projects initiated by previous assembly members to pave way for new initiatives.

Mr Blay appealed to the government to make issues of women a priority since they constitute 50 per cent of the country's population and make up a critical mass of the country's workforce.

He said the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs should be proactive in securing loans for a number of women to establish businesses to reduce poverty amongst them.

Mr Blay noted that youth unemployment in Madina was alarming and called on the authorities to offer especially the school drop-outs skill training in order to make a living.

He commended the people for their self-help spirit and urged them to come out with suggestions that would help develop the community and the country at as a whole.
