Assembly procures canoes for two communities

Nyinahin (Ash), Sept 7, GNA - The Atwima-Mponua District Assembly has procured two dug-out canoes valued at 100 million cedis for Akonfere and Afepaye communities where the people cross two major rivers to the district centre for their social and economic activities. The assembly has also supplied 2,500 bags of cement and about 100 packets of roofing sheets to some communities to speed up their development projects.

Some of the communities are Adiembra, Ahyiresu and Bayerebon. Mr Wilberforce Owusu-Ansah, the District Chief Executive, disclosed these to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Nyinahin on Wednesday. He, however, said his administration would in future review the system of supplying building materials to ensure proper accountability due to reports of non-utilisation of materials supplied promptly. Mr Owusu-Ansah said the assembly had purchased Braille machine and a writing device valued at seven million cedis for Mr Kofi Abraham, a 26-year-old blind student of Akropong to facilitate his education. The DCE said under the National Youth Employment Programme, the assembly has adopted five modules, including agriculture, education, health, agri-business, sanitation management and community policing. He appealed to opinion leaders in the district to assist qualified persons in their communities to be enrolled in the modules to ensure total success of the programme.
