Assembly funds training of students

Breman Asikuma Jan. 8, GNA - The Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District Assembly has spent 100 million cedis on the training of some students in Teacher Training colleges who have pledged to teach in the area after the completion of their training to help improve the standard of education there.

Mr Sampson K. Ansako, District Chief Executive, who announced this at the assembly's last session for the year 2003 at Breman Asikuma on Wednesday, said a total of 100 teachers had benefited from the scheme. He said the assembly's decision followed the poor performance of schools in the area in last year's Basic Education Certificate Examination.

He appealed to beneficiaries of the scheme to learn hard to enable them to complete their training so that they could fulfil their pledge. Mr Ansako said the district would be connected to the Internet to improve communication and to facilitate teaching and learning.

He commended the District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service for sensitising the people on how to promote good health. Nana Kweku Adutwum, the Presiding Member of the Assembly, called on members to work harder towards the development of the area. He urged them to initiate pragmatic programmes for the training of the youth to enable them to acquire skills required for national reconstruction.

Nana Adutwum also appealed to the assembly members to assist revenue collectors to mobilize more fund for the development of the area.
