Assembly draws up disaster management plan

Tepa (Ash), Oct 16, GNA- The Ahafo-Ano North District Assembly, in collaboration with the district office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), has drawn up a disaster management plan to avert disasters in the district.

Under the programme the assembly is to construct three fire hydrants to enhance the work of the Fire Service.

Mr Akwasi Adu-Poku, the District Chief Executive, said this in a speech read for him during World Disaster Reduction Day celebration at Tepa on Wednesday.

He said the assembly is buy 100 bags of cement, 20 packets of roofing sheets and 50 boxes of roofing nails to assist communities affected by disasters.

Mr Adu-Polu appealed to assembly and unit committee members, chiefs and churches to assist NADMO to educate the public on the nature and causes of disasters and how to control or manage them when they occur. Mr Benjamin Bio Agyemang, the District NADMO Co-ordinator, said 275 volunteers have been trained in the district to serve as contact persons in the communities on disaster and environmental issues.
