Assemblies asked to enforce bye laws on sanitation

Bolgatanga (UE), July 28, GNA - Mr Mark Woyongo, Upper East Regional Minister, on Tuesday called on District and Municipal Assemblies to enforce bye laws on sanitation to reduce the occurrence of diseases such as malaria and cholera. He said this when presenting more than 100 motorbikes to the Community-Based Health Promotion teams (CBHPTs) in Bolgatanga, which was made possible through the collaboration of the Better Ghana Management Services and the Government of Ghana (BGMS).

Mr Woyongo said the provision of the motorbikes would help the CBHPTs to educate people on health issues.

Mrs Beatrice Amponsah, General Manager of BGMS, said the organization and the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service (GHS) would jointly support the teams, drawn from the School of Hygiene, Health Extension Services and private health institutions, with technical knowledge, to educate the public on disease prevention.

Mr Kofi Edusei, National Coordinator of GHS, said the BGMS was recruiting 2,500 youth nationwide of which 200 had been trained to work in the various districts and municipalities of the Region. He tasked the CBHPTs to work with stakeholders to prevent outbreak of diseases in the area.
