Asikuma Assembly adopts measures to check armed robbery

Breman Asikuma (C/R) Aug. 11, GNA - The Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District Assembly has put in place measures to help curb armed robbery and other criminal activities in the area. Under the measures police personnel in the district have stepped up night patrols.

Mrs Georgina Nkrumah Aboah, the District Chief Executive, said the assembly had also provided vehicles to the police to support its operations.

She said all dormant neighbourhood watchdog committees in the area had been revived to support police night patrol and that snap road blocks would also be mounted. Mrs Aboah expressed the hope that the measures would achieve good results because the Police Administration had posted additional personnel to the district. She said the assembly had supplied electricity bulbs to communities in the district.

She said the district had recorded three armed robbery cases at Breman Asikuma since the beginning of the year. The Chief Executive said roads in the area were not good and the assembly had taken steps to rehabilitate them to assist police and other security personnel to undertake their operations. On Education, Mrs Aboah said her priority was to improve education standard in the area and that teachers would be motivated with accommodation, bicycles and other incentives. The District Directorate of Ghana Education Service would be assisted to intensify supervision of schools to enhance teaching and learning. 11 Aug. 09
