Ashanti: Teachers demonstrate over “corrupt” leadership

More than one hundred teachers have hit the streets of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, demonstrating over what they say are arbitrary transfers of their colleagues by the Ghana Education service.

The teachers complain they are not given prior notice before transfers are made.

They are also demanding the dismissal of the regional director of education, Safo Kantanka. They accuse him of misappropriating funds and being corrupt.

Leader of the group Owusu Kankam told Starr News’ Regional correspondent Isaac Bediako Justice the current director demands bribes from the teachers before transfers, adding that those who refuse to pay the bribes get transferred arbitrarily.
