Asante-Akim South district assembly holds peoples assembly.

Juaso (Ash), Jan. 20, GNA - The Asante-Akim South District Assembly spent a total 3.3 billion cedis of the Common Fund for the district to undertake 16 projects.
The projects include school blocks, construction of medical wards for Juaso hospital, aqua privy toilets, renovation of circuit court building and construction of area council office at Obogu and Juaso. In addition, European Union (EU) funded micro projects at the cost of one billion cedis within the assembly area.
The projects included construction of rural clinic with four-seater KVIP at Kumewo, construction of nurses quarters as well as rural clinic at Obogu, construction of JSS blocks at Asante-Akim Praso, Kurofu, Nkwanta and primary school blocks at Subinso, Ahyiresu and teachers quarters at Bonso.
Dr Lord Justice Gyamfi-Fenteng, District Chief Executive disclosed these at District Assembly peoples' forum at Juaso on Monday which was attended by traditional rulers, assembly members, opinion leaders, heads of departments and party functionaries.
He explained that the assembly spent over one billion cedis of the HIPC funds to undertake projects such as butchers' shop, slaughter shop, aqua privy toilets for seven villages, public urinals in five towns and classroom blocks at Morso and Yaw Kwei.
On Village Infrastructure Projects (VIP), the assembly spent 1.9 billion cedis for the construction of rural markets at Asuboa, Tanokrom, Muramura, Dadieso, Ketanso, Atwedie and Brontuokrom. Dr Gyamfi-Fenteng said rural transport infrastructure which is a component of VIP feasibility studies have been completed on 10 farm roads including Kwabeng-Kadjo Formanso, Odubi-Komeagya, Keikrom-Akokofori, Adomfe-Tanokrom, Tanokrom-Atotosu and junction-Atotosu, Morso-Adomfe, Yaw Bronya-Kokoma and Saabo-Odifo Wilson.
He said the projects, which would be executed this year are estimated at 5.7 billion cedis.
Dr Gyamfi-Fenteng disclosed that in addition to the first quarter allocation of the 2002 MP's construction project fund of 22.9 million cedis, two quarterly releases of 33.4 million cedis each in respect of 2003 allocation have been received.
He said the MP supplied 120 dual-desks, 40 collapsible chairs and tables with metal stands all worth 36.4 million cedis were supplied under the constituency project for five primary schools, and Ofoase Secondary/Technical School.
A total of 70 bays and six packets of roofing sheets were also distributed to two primary schools, Danpong police station, Pra-river market and Akwatia and Atweetie Nursing Schools. Nana Adonfe Agyei the second, Adonfehene chaired the assembly which was not attended by either the MP or any Minister from Accra or Kumasi.
