Asafo companies have crucial role in community dev't - chief

Enyan Denkyira (C/R), March 18, GNA - The Tufohene of the Enyan Denkyira Traditional Area, Nana Akyin II, on Wednesday stressed the need for 'Asafo' Companies to play more constructive roles in the development of their communities.

Nana Akyin, known in private life as Mr Atta Mensah, a 64-year-old businessman, made the call at his installation at Denkyira. He succeeds his uncle Nana Akyin I, who died about 10 years ago.

According to him, such traditional groupings were established in the older days to defend their towns in times of war, adding that now that the wars are over, there was the need for them to refrain from indulging in unnecessary chieftancy disputes and to channel their energies in enhancing the socio-economic development of their areas.
