Anfoega Traditional Council honours heroes

Anfoega(V/R), June 30, GNA - The chiefs and people of Anfoega Traditional Area on Saturday honoured 75 families of fallen heroes and those who contributed to the political and socio-economic development of the Anfoega community and the nation.

Those honoured included the family of the Late Togbe Kodzokuma, a great warrior who established the Anfoega community and late Togbe Tepre Hodo III, First Chairman of Trans Volta Togoland.

The late Togbe Hodo III built the community's Post Office within 21 days, a community centre and a hospital for the area and assisted to resolve about 50 chieftaincy disputes nationwide during his reign. They were honoured at the community's special Golden Jubilee Homecoming and Republic Durbar held at Anfoega Akukome. Addressing the people, Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, President of Anfoega Traditional Council said the honour was to encourage the youth to contribute to the development of the area. He asked the people to honour their financial responsibilities regularly for the council to maintain and develop structures bequeathed to them by their forefathers.

Togbe Hodo announced that a seminar would be organised in the community soon to discuss the role of the family, what a family property means and the need to elect family heads with duties assigned for the socio-economic development of the area. He said the council had tasked the Anfoega Development Foundation to form Anfoega Club 1000 for the members to donate at least 100 million cedis annually to speed up development projects in the community and urged citizens living outside and within the community to join the Club to succeed.

Madam Akua Sena Dansua, Member of Parliament for North Dayi, commended the community for the noble idea to honour its past and present heroes and urged the youth to continue with the achievements of their forefathers. She commended women who won awards and asked them to advise girls in the community to keep the "fire burning" and become 'Yaa Asantewas' of their time.

Mr Pius Adanuti, Kpando District Chief Executive commended the community for keeping the flame of communal spirit alive and implored them to continue building the community in unity for its accelerated development. 30 June 07
