An NGO presents educational materials to 50 schools

Tamale, March 15, GNA - A Tamale-based NGO, Regional Advisory Information and Networks Systems (RAINS) has presented educational materials worth 140 million cedis to 50 schools in the Northern and Upper East regions. The items included 25,000 notebooks, 50 footballs, 30 sets of jerseys and 20 million cedis cash to improve studies and social activities among the students as well as rekindle their interest in school activities. They were received and distributed to the schools by the District Directorates of Education.

A release issued and signed by Mr Hardi Tijani, Project Assistant in Tamale said the project was initiated to improve conditions of vulnerable and underprivileged children in society by offering them assistance and access to education. It said the schools were selected in consultation with the Ghana Education Service (GES) under a pilot programme in five selected districts in both regions.

The statement said the project would subsidise cost of education for parents and guarantee an enabling environment for effective teaching and learning. Mr Nyadia Sulemana, Project Officer appealed to parents to ensure children attend school regularly since education was the best legacy for them. He said NGO in collaboration with ILO/IPEC was in addition, working out a programme to prevent child trafficking through school retention.
