An NGO assists 40 schools with 120 million cedis

Kokoado-Ashanti, Oct. 04, GNA - The management of Link Community Development, Ghana, an NGO on Wednesday presented cheques totalling 120 million cedis to 40 selected primary schools in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma (BAK) District towards provision of teaching materials this academic year.

Each school received a cheque for three million cedis. Dr Kennedy Quaigrain, Ghana Programme Director of the NGO, presenting the cheques at Kokoado near Kuntanase, said the organisation was established to assist deprived communities to enhance teaching and learning in schools.

He said last year, they assisted 40 primary schools in the district each receiving 2.2 million cedis towards the provision of teaching materials to complement the efforts of Government to promote education. Dr Quaigrain said the organisation was assisting 111 schools in four districts in the country.

They are Bolgatanga Municipality, Talensi-Nabdam and Kassena-Nankana districts all in Upper East Region and BAK in Ashanti region.

He stressed the need for beneficiary communities to raise funds locally to support the education of their children to enable them enjoy quality education.

Mrs Doris Dora Amaniampong, Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District Director of Education, commended the organisation for the gesture that would help improve standards of education in the area. She said the district scored nearly 70 per cent in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) this year and described it as an improvement over 2005.

Mr Bright Addai-Mununkum, Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District Chief Executive in a speech read for him, appealed to School Management Committees, Parent-Teacher Associations and other stakeholders to assist teachers to help improve education in the area.

Some of the beneficiary schools in BAK are, Feyiase, Mpatasie, Kotwi, Aburaso, Adumasa and Konkori Primary schools. The rest are Kuntanase, Tetrefu, Kokobriko, Bonkorkor and Asisiriwa Primary schools.
