Amede Presbyterian School appeals for support

The headmaster of the Amede Presbyterian School in the Suhum District has expressed worry over the deteriorating condition of the school.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Alexander Oduro said the kindergarten department of the school was housed in a wooden structure erected by the Parent Teacher Association(PTA).

He said the school always closed down when the rains begun and the floor, which was not cemented, posed a health risk to the children.

Mr Oduro said the situation at the Junior High School (JHS) was not different adding that there were no teachers' tables in the classrooms.

He said the JHS block of the school, which was started by the Suhum Municipal Assembly eight years ago, is yet to be completed and the wooden frames to be used had been left to the mercy of termites.

Mr Oduro said when he reported the issue to the Suhum District Assembly, he noticed that in the documents of the Assembly it had been indicated that the uncompleted JHS structure has been documented as completed.

He said used condoms, pieces of cigarettes, marijuana and human excreta were always seen in the classrooms.

Mr Oduro said several reports had been sent to the Suhum Municipal Assembly and other institutions to help complete the building but all had not yielded any results.

He said the school recorded a 48 per cent pass at the Basic Education Certificate Examination(BECE) and gave the assured that the results could be improved if more attention was paid to it.
