Am Grateful: John Tiah tells constituents

Tongo (UE), Dec 8, GNA - Mr. John Akolgo Tia, Member of Parliament for the Talensi Constituency in Upper East Region, at the weekend visited communities in his constituency to express his appreciation to them, for voting him into office as a parliamentarian for the fifth time. Speaking to some party sympathizers in some of the communities he visited, the MP thanked them for retaining him and for voting the National Democratic Congress (NDC) into power.

The communities he visited including Gaare, Baare, Pelingu, and Pusu-Namogo.

The MP who is also the Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament assured his constituents that the NDC Government had a lot of pro-poor policies in place in the three Northern Regions, that would help address their needs and reduce poverty in the area.

He mentioned a number of pro-poor policies including the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA), the Northern Rural Growth Project (NRGP), and Shea Nut Development Fund among others that would boost the agriculture, health, education, road sectors. Mr. Tia said a number of irrigation dams would be constructed for the rural people in the three Northern Regions to go into dry season farming, instead of relying on rain-fed agriculture.

He said the NDC Government has started the importation of farm machineries such as tractors, power tillers, combine harvesters, threshers, planters among others, to be sold to farmers at subsidized prices, with favourable terms of payments, all geared towards improving on the living standards of Ghanaians.

He said the Youth in Agriculture Policy had been repackaged to engage more youth into agriculture and urged the youth to avail themselves to take up the opportunity and improve upon themselves instead of idling about. He told the people to exercise restraints whilst Government fulfilled. 8 Dec. 09
