Akrofuom MP initiates youth training centre project

Akrofuom (Ash), June 23, GNA - Mr Kwabena Appiah-Pinkrah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Akrofuom in the Adansi South District, has initiated a 1.5 billion cedi women and youth training centre at Akrofuom, which is progressing steadily. So far, 400 million cedis has been expended on the project, being executed through direct labour by the District Assembly. The MP, who led newsmen to inspect the project, said additional 300 million cedis had been released from the District Assemblies' Common Fund to support the project.

At present work on the super structure for a multi-purpose hall and other facilities have been completed while enough cement blocks and other materials are available for the construction of a library, administration block and six pavilions to be used as workshops. Mr Appiah-Pinkrah said the project would help in the training of the youth and vulnerable women on trades that would make them self-sufficient economically. He said it was important for less academically endowed youth and women to acquire some skills that would enable them to generate wealth for themselves and their families.

Mr Appiah-Pinkrah also took the newsmen to inspect the Akrofuom Community Computer Centre project, which was initiated by the local Catholic Church and being supported by the MP. So far the MP has provided 100 bags of cement, 10 packets of roofing sheets, nails and boards towards the project, which is at the roofing stage. The Rev Father Lawrence Mensah, Parish Priest, said support from the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the church's schools and contributions from members enabled the project to reach that stage. He said so far almost 300 million cedis had been spent on the project estimated to cost 600 million cedis.
