Akim Asunafo embarks on self-help projects

Akim Asunafo(E/R), Dec. 26, GNA - The chiefs and people of Akim Asunafo, a farming community in the East Akim District, have initiated a number of projects estimated at over 150 million cedis to improve their living conditions.

The projects include the re-shaping and tarring of the 18-kilometre feeder road from Akim Abomosu to New Jejeti, the provision of a pipe-borne water system and a cassava processing factory based on co-operative system with the people of Osoroase, also a farming community in the area.

Others are the construction of sheds for social gatherings, the construction of a library for the Primary and JSS schools and the cultivation of a 3-acre cocoa seedlings project.

The Assembly Member for the town, Mr Joshua Adu Opoku disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency at Akim Asunafo during the inspection of the feeder road currently under construction.

Mr Adu Opoku said all the project are being funded through communal labour with some assistance from citizens of the town resident in the US.

He said residents are paying 30,000 cedis, a man and 20,000 cedis a woman while non-residents are paying 50,000 cedis a man and 30,000 cedis a woman.

Mr Adu Opoku said the community had completed the planting of shade trees like acacia and nim trees to check rainstorms, saying in all, 500 trees had been planted and are doing well.
