Ahafo-Ano South assembly supports the blind

Mankranso (Ash), Jan 10, GNA - The Ahafo-Ano South District Assembly has presented one million cedis cash each to 23 blind persons in the district at Mankranso.

The amount was to support their activities to enable them contribute meaningfully towards the socio-economic development of the country.

Mr Kwaku Obeng Boateng, the District Chief Executive who presented the amount, said the money is part of the five per cent of the assembly's common fund allocation to disabled persons in the area. He advised them to form co-operative societies to enable them receive such assistance from the assembly at all times. Mr Boateng disclosed that the assembly had also registered 23 visually impaired persons in the District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme at the cost of three million cedis free of charge to help them receive health care.

The DCE appealed to the recipients to make good use of the money to improve their living conditions. Mr George Mireku-Sono, the District Social Welfare Officer, commended the assembly for the assistance and hoped they would use the money judiciously.
