Ahafo-Ano North assembly calls for termination of road contract

Tepa (Ash), Sept. 24, GNA- The Ahafo-Ano North District Assembly has called on the Ministry of Transportation to terminate the contract on the tarring of the 16.5-kilometre Anyinasuso-Betiako road, for undue delay, incompetence and the use of obsolete equipment by the contractor. It also called on the Ministry to re-award the 55.10-kilometre Manfo-Subriso road to another contractor because since the award of the contract six months ago, the contractor was yet to commence work. These were contained in a resolution adopted by the assembly at its second ordinary meeting at Tepa.

The resolution also said assembly members would collaborate with unit committee members and traditional rulers to regularly monitor projects in the area to ensure cost effectiveness and completion of work on schedule.

The assembly expressed disappointment about the results of schools in this year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in which only 612 out of 1,496 candidates, representing 41 per cent passed the examination and asked the Education Sub-Committee of the assembly to investigate the causes of the abysmal performance. Nana Eric Agyemang Prempeh, the District Chief Executive, praised Dr Isaac Boateng, the Medical Superintendent of Tepa District Hospital and the staff for their dedication to duty, which had improved health in the area.
