Afigya-Sekyere district appeals for more nurses

Agona (Ash), Nov. 21, GNA - Dr. Samuel Adjei, the Afigya-Sekyere District Director of Health Services, has appealed to the Ashanti Regional Director of Health Services to post more general curative nurses to the district.

He explained that the district was faced with a shortage of curative nurses because most of them have either refused postings to the district or do not stay there beyond one year when even they accept posting to the area.

Dr Adjei made the appeal in a briefing with the Ghana News Agency at Agona on Thursday.

"We have only three curative nurses for the 10 health institutions which makes it difficult for us to effectively deliver health care services", he noted.

As a means of helping resolve the problem, Dr Adjei suggested to the district assembly to construct more nurses' quarters to accommodate those who may be posted to the area.

He observed that malaria was a disease very common among children in the district and therefore, advocated for persistent cleaning of the environment to help reduce the diseases.

Motor and domestic accidents too, he said, were also among the common cases at the clinics and hospital and called for sustained education to eliminate such accidents.

Dr Adjei lauded the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) initiative and urged Ghanaians to embrace it without any reservation.
