Afenyo Markin becomes NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Effutu

Winneba, (C/R) May 1, GNA - The Effutu Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has elected, Mr Alexander Afenyo Makin, a legal practitioner, as its Parliamentary Candidate in its primaries held in Winneba, on Saturday.

He polled 209 votes to beat his contestant, Mr Victor Yankson, also a legal practitioner, who had 34 votes out of the 243 votes. The election was conducted by the Electoral Commission of Ghana. Mr Markin, the assembly member for Kojo Bedu, contested the seat with Mr Samuel Owusu Adjei, the immediate past Member of Parliament for the area in 2007 and lost to him.

He thanked God and his supporters for his election, saying his "victory is a symbol of victory for the party's success in the constituency in the 2012 general elections."

He, therefore, urged members to bury their differences and rally behind him to recapture the Effutu Constituency Parliamentary seat for the NPP.

"It is only when we combine our forces and work hard that we can defeat the NDC," he declared.

Mr Markin is also the immediate past Presiding Member of the Effutu Municipal Assembly.
