Adeiso to paint houses for Golden Jubilee celebration of Independence

Adeiso(E/R) Sept. 4. GNA - Barima Asare Oduro, II, Adeisohene, has asked landlords of the town, especially those whose houses are along the main road, to paint them before the celebration of Ghana's 50th Independence anniversary celebration in March, next year. He noted that if people were able to paint houses in readiness for funerals, it should also be possible for them to do so for the golden jubilee celebration of the birth of Ghana as a free and independent nation.

Addressing a public forum at Adeiso to discuss issues affecting the development of the township, Barimah Oduro, who is also a member of the West Akyem District Assembly, called on his people to ensure that the township was rid of unsanitary conditions by organizing regular communal labour to keep Adeiso clean.

Nana Adeisohene called on the electorate in the town to cast their vote during the September 12 district level elections and asked contestants to do clean campaigning by avoiding vilifying other contestants.

He praised the two out-going elected assembly members for the township who are not contesting again, Mr Ansah Adjei and Miss Amelia Duker, for their hard work and transparency which had helped improved conditions in the township.

Nana Adeisohene condemned those who have damaged a number of switches of the recently-installed street lights and warned them to reform or be dealt with severely if caught indulging in criminal activities.

The meeting appointed an 11-member committee to acquire and plan a new cemetery as well as disposal sites for solid and liquid wastes.

Giving an account of the projects undertaken in the town during their tenure of office, Mr Adjei said a three-billion-cedi water project which had effectively solved the water problems of Adeiso was completed with the community and the district assembly contributing 96 million cedis each and the rest borne by the Ghana and the Danish governments. Mr Ansah Adjei said an 800-million-cedi girls' dormitory for the Adeiso Presbyterian Secondary School was being built, 300 million cedis of the amount being in fulfillment of a promise made by President J. A. Kufuor when he visited the town.

A 152-million-cedi canteen for the school was also ready for inauguration with the Member of Parliament for Upper West Akyem, Mr Samuel Sallas-Mensah, providing 30 million cedis from his MP's Common Fund.
