Adda donates roofing sheets to rainstorm affected communities

Naga (UE), May 29, GNA- Mr. Joseph Kofi Adda, Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, has donated 15 packets of roofing sheets and other building materials worth 10,000 Ghana Cedis to the Naga Community which lost houses and the roof of a local school to a rainstorm on 15 April, this year. The roof of the three classroom block of the Naga Primary School including a storeroom was completely ripped off compelling its authorities to close down the school temporarily.

The affected school building which housed about 275 pupils would get five pockets of roofing sheets and other building materials whilst the remaining 10 roofing sheets and other building materials would be given to owners of houses destroyed by the rainstorm.

Presenting the items to the Chief of Naga and the head teacher of the school, the MP indicated that he was disturbed by the inability of school children to attend school because of the destruction caused by the rainstorm and decided to make the donation.

Mr. Adda said he would bear the cost of the roofing of the school and would also provide books to replace those that were destroyed by the storm. He indicated that he would also ensure that electricity was extended to teachers and nurses' bungalows in all communities in his constituency and to provide teachers with television sets, fridges among others as incentive packages to attract them to the rural community. Mr. Adda said he viewed education as one of the strongest weapons to achieve development

The Chief of Naga and the head teacher of the School, Naba Olando Awuni III and Abambila Michael respectively, thanked the MP for his kind gesture and appealed impress on the Ghana Education Service to post more teachers to the area to help improve on the overall performance of its schools. They explained that they had made several appeals to the District Directorate of education and other stakeholders in the District to get the school re-roofed but all the appeals have been ignored.
