Accra Ubuntu Leo Club collaborates with Accra Ubuntu Lions Club to clean beach

The Accra Ubuntu Leo Club, in collaboration with the Accra Ubuntu Lions Club of District 418, has embarked on a beach cleanup exercise at the shores of Accra Main Beach recently.

Spearheading this laudable initiative along the coastal community, Accra Ubuntu Leo Club and Accra Ubuntu Lions Club spent several hours tidying the beach, with the aim of making the beach a fascinating place for revellers.

The cleanup exercise had incredible support from some members of the parent club, "Accra Ubuntu Lions Club International," who participated in this activity to complement the frantic efforts of the Accra Ubuntu Leo Club.

Patron for the Accra Ubuntu Leo Club, Lion Naomi Naa Adjeley Anang, commended the bold step taken by the Leos, which, according to her, was a step in the right direction and serves as an indicator of ambitious future Lions.

Lion Naomi commended the Accra Ubuntu Leo Club for their staunch cooperation over the service year by urging them to continually serve with great pleasure in order to keep putting Lions Club International on the global map.

On her part, this beach cleaning exercise was agenda-driven to make Accra beaches one of the cleanest beaches in Ghana, and she cautioned individuals to refrain from dirtying the beach.

To this score, Lion Naomi entreated Ghanaians to desist from dumping waste materials into the sea because it would grossly harm aquatic species.

She reiterated her commitment to safeguarding the sanity of the beach by involving Lions Club International members to engage in beach cleaning.

Accentuating the harmful practices at most beaches, Lion Alfred Nii Arday Ankrah, who participated in the exercise, condemned the act of keeping the beach unclean as a disturbing activity that puts Ghana's tourism at risk.

Expressing displeasure at the current state of most Ghanaian beaches, Lion Nii Arday said it was a self-infringed phenomenon by inhabitants along the shores and called for immediate pragmatic measures to halt such acts.

Lion Nii Arday attributed the deplorable state of the beach to the dumping of refuse along the shores and into the sea, and he also mentioned open defecation as a worrying situation that breeds unhealthy conditions for people who visit the beach.

According to Lion Alfred Nii Arday Ankrah, it is prudent for Ghanaians to collectively help in achieving the United Nations agenda to ensure clean water and sanitation by cleaning the beaches, as encapsulated in Sustainable Development Goals 6 and 14.
