APEX farmers welcome Annan home

Tamale, March 3, GNA - The Apex Farmers Organisation of Ghana (APFOG) has sent a message of congratulations to the former Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), Busumuru Kofi Annan, welcoming him back home.

The message said the country's farmers took pride in his achievements and service rendered to humanity during his tenure as head of the world body.

The organisation especially took note with gladness Busumuru Annan's decision to take to farming as his occupation and said his decision would bring honour to farmers and encourage more African leaders to take to farming.

The welcome message signed by Mr. Patrick Adingtigah Apullah, General-Secretary of APFOG, expressed the hope that the former UN boss would exert his influence on African governments to initiate prudent agriculture policies to improve the living standards of their people. The message also congratulated President J A Kufuor on his election as Chairman of the African Union (AU) and expressed the hope that he would use his sterling qualities to help resolve the conflicts in Africa and steer the continent towards peace and democracy.
