ADRA to help in national forestation drive

Nkoranza, July 21, GNA- The Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), is helping farmers at Tanfiano Number One, a farming community in the Nkoranza District of Brong Ahafo, in the national forestation programme by planting more trees.

It has so far supplied 2,500 seedlings of cashew and acacia to 40 farmers in the area.

Mr Kwaku Poku, Assemblyman for the area, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the acacia plants would be planted at the banks of rivers to prevent them from drying up during the dry seasons.

''The farmers will plant the cashew seedlings to improve their economic activities'', he said.

Mr Poku expressed gratitude to ADRA for supporting the programme and called on the people to organize communal labour to clear weeds around the acacia trees to prevent them from being destroyed by bushfires.
