ADRA and partners donate to flood and fire victims

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) in collaboration with the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church and the Adventist Community Services have donated a number of assorted items to the flood and fire victims.

The donations were made to the 37 Military Hospital and some households at Awoshie, in the Ga Central Municipality of Accra, who were also affected by the Wednesday, June 3 disaster.

The items include five boxes of absorbent gauze, two boxes of crepe bandage and one box of cotton wool, which were presented to the 37 Military Hospital whilst the residents of Awoshie received bags of rice, beans, oil, salt and second-clothing.

The donation by ADRA and its partners to the victims is dubbed, “Imitation of Christ,”

Pastor Solomon Okoe Trebi Hammond, the Executive Secretary of the South Ghana Conference of the SDA, making the presentation on behalf of the President of the Southern Ghana Union Conference of the SDA, said the gesture forms part of the 2015 community services launched by the church.

He said: “As a church, we have to show concern for our unfortunate brothers and sisters who by no fault of theirs fell into such predicament” adding that, Ghanaians must be proactive in their thinking and planning to save a little in times of emergency.

“As SDA members we have accepted the challenge of becoming good stewards in the communities where we live and fellowship to influence society for a peaceful co-existence,” he said.

Colonel Ivy Tamakloe, the Deputy Matron (Administration) of the 37 Military Hospital, who received the items, expressed gratitude to the donors for the kind gesture.

Madam Marigold Domfeh, the Project Manager of ADRA, said the donations were just the beginning of good things to come, and assured that they would continue supporting them when the need arises.

She urged the residents to keep their surroundings clean and put an end to dumping refuse into drains.

Mr Kwame Asare Obeng, the Ga Central Municipality Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), expressed gratitude to ADRA and its partners for the donations.

He called for collaboration among NGO’s to create awareness on environmental and sanitation hazards in the communities, to prevent the perennial flooding and outbreak of diseases.
