Tema, Aug. 29, GNA -- The Tema Office of Electoral Commission registered 82,658 eligible voters in five constituencies during the just ended limited registration exercise at 29 centres in 362 polling stations in the municipality.

Mr Michael Boadu, Tema Metropolitan Electoral Officer in an interview with Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Tema on Wednesday said it exceeded its target of 20,000 eligible voters.

He said there was a large turn out of eligible voters above 20 years and out of the 82,658 eligible voters 50,637 of them were made up of 26,404 men and 24,233 women. Mr Boadu said 8,908 men and 8,789 women were 18 years and 7,081 men and 7,243 women were 19 years.

He noted that all eligible voters were registered because some registration forms were returned to the office from the centres at the end of the exercise.

Mr Boadu expressed appreciation to the 116 officials and the public for their maturity that made the exercise in Tema violence free. On those who registered without photographs, Mr Boadu said a date would be fixed and advised them to keep their slips while those who had misplaced their voters' identity card contact the Commission for replacement.

Mr Boadu said 16,298 eligible voters registered in Tema East, 18,748 in Tema West, 20,923 at Ashaiman, 12,857 at Adenta and 13,832 in Kpone Katamanso constituencies.
