A 12-year-old girl commits suicide in Kumasi

Kumasi, Aug.21, GNA - The police in Kumasi are making frantic efforts to unravel the bizarre circumstances under which Tina Wood, a 12-year-old girl committed suicide in her mother's room at Kwadaso, a Kumasi suburb on Monday.

Sources close to the Kumasi Central Police told GNA that mother of the deceased chanced upon the horrid scene of her daughter hanging from a rope tied to a wooden bar dividing their room.

Hysterically, raising the alarm for help, co-tenants assisted her to extricate the body from the bar but she was pronounced dead on arrival at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) where she was taken for treatment.

The source said Tina who lived with the mother attends school at Jesus the King in Kumasi and about 16:30 on Monday, the mother left her behind to see a visitor off while Tina was watching television in their room. She returned a while later to find the daughter in that state. Meanwhile her body has been deposited at KATH morgue for autopsy. 21 Aug. 07
