4-day training workshop on revenue mobilization opened at Nkroful

Nkroful (W/R), May 14, GNA - A-four-day training workshop aimed at boosting revenue mobilization drive by the Ellembelle District Assembly, is underway at Nkroful in the Western Region. Opening the workshop, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Daniel K= .. Eshun, said the training was to build the capacity of revenue collectors and to further enhance their knowledge in revenue mobilization. He said the Assembly could not depend on the Common Fund and the District Development Fund alone to undertake projects and therefore calle= d on revenue collectors to take their training seriously to achieve the desired goal. Mr Eshun revealed that if their performances did not improve after th= e training programme, the Assembly would run on commercial basis by engagin= g a few officers to work to generate the needed revenue. He told the revenue collectors to be pro-active in their work and exhibit honesty and patience in the discharge of their duties to accelera= te the pace of development in the district. The Head of Revenue at the Ministry of Local Government, Mr Johnson Halifo said collectors would be taken through topics such as the sources of local government revenue, operational techniques in revenue mobilization,=

communication and behavioural approach. He said the workshop sought to enable the revenue collectors to set targets and also to refresh their minds on new methods of mobilizing reve= nue to make their work much easier and productive. The District Finance Officer, Mr Joseph Kweku Agyei, said the budget for the first quarter Internally Generated Fund (IGF) was GH¢83,188.14 of w= hich the amount collected was GH¢90,752.31. In all, about 40 revenue collectors are expected to take part in the=

workshop of which 10 are permanent and 30 casuals. Mr. Agyei appealed to government to absorb some of the casual collectors into the mainstream to cut down cost being paid on commission. 14 May 10
