Triumphant performance by GUSA members at the 13th All African Games

The 13th African Games, hosted by Ghana, unfolded from Friday, 8th to Saturday, 23rd March 2024, showcasing a riveting display of sporting prowess.

This regional multi-sport event, held every four years, captivated millions of spectators worldwide with its meticulously organized and highly successful three-week spectacle.

Among the standout performers were esteemed members of the Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA), whose exceptional contributions added luster to the nation's sporting achievements. Their remarkable performances have brought immense pride to Ghana on the international stage.

Notable among the GUSA contingent is Ms. Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah currently gold medalist in the World University Games Women High Jump held last year in Chengdu, China. Her mastery in the Women’s High Jump secured a gold medal.

Additionally, Mr. Frederick Asante, Mr. Henry Horlali, and Mr. Dake Kabu demonstrated remarkable skills in Basketball, clinching a silver medal for their outstanding teamwork. Moreover, Mr. Evans Cadman Yamoah, a former GUSA member, ascended to victory in the Men’s High Jump Division, earning another gold medal for Ghana.

Besides all the above, over ninety percent (90%) of the track and field athletes who represented our dear country Ghana were current and past GUSA members. There were also some GUSA members among the female football team that won the gold medal.

On the technical side of officiating, a good number of the technical officials were from GUSA.

The Ghanaian delegation exhibited unwavering perseverance, courage, and dedication throughout the games, culminating in a remarkable total of sixty-nine medals. Among these were nineteen gold, twenty-nine silver, and twenty-one bronze medals, spanning twenty-nine diverse sporting disciplines such as football, volleyball, handball, table tennis, badminton, basketball, arm wrestling, and boxing. This historic achievement stands as a testament to Ghana's sporting prowess and resilience.

Heartfelt congratulations are extended to the entire Ghanaian team, with special commendation reserved for the GUSA members whose contributions have played a pivotal role in elevating the nation's sporting legacy.

Their dedication and commitment serve as an inspiration to us all, embodying the sentiment aptly expressed by Irish boxer and Olympic gold medalist, Katie Taylor: "Only the strongest shoulders can carry the hopes of a nation."
