ACCRA, GHANA

PRESS RELEASE

We view with great concern, statements attributed to some leading members and elders of our party that rather can foment further divisions in New Patriotic Party and we wish to join all well meaning people of the party who have called for a seizure of hostilities and a closure of our ranks so as to focus our energies on our common adversary, the NDC.

On Wednesday, the 29th of September, 2009, former National Chairman of the party, Mr. Haruna Esseku granted an interview to CITI FM. Mr. Esseku is reported to have referred to Mr. Alan Kyremanteng as bad news and warned against him contesting the presidential primaries for the 2012 general elections. These comments to say the least are unfortunate and unwarranted.

It appears Mr. Haruna Esseku wants to carve notoriety, given that anytime he speaks his utterances have rather given ammunition to the National Democratic Congress than galvanize the party. He may be well advised to desist from causing further embarrassment to himself and the party.

We refer to, amongst others, the unfortunate Michael Ampong – Haruna Mahama saga in the studios of Asempa FM recently. This trend certainly heightens the tensions that may exist in the party leading to entrenched positions. We respectfully call on all members of the party, particularly leading members and elders to refrain from making such public statement. By these statements, these leading members attempt to take over the democratic space in the party. On the matter of who leads the party into election 2012, the power of determination has been given and rightly so, to polling station executives of the party. It does not lie in the mouth of Haruna Esseku or any leading member. At a time that the NDC is exhibiting gross incompetence in the handling of national affairs evidenced by rampant fuel shortages, escalating commodity prices, general harsh living conditions, etc coupled with deep seated tensions emanating from the various camps i.e. Rawlings, Fante Confederacy, Northern Caucus, Spio Gabrah, etc., the reasonable thing for the NPP to do is to position itself as a sounder, more united alternative government–in-waiting. We the Non-Aligned Patriotic Forces of the NPP call on all members of the party to rededicate themselves to the ideals that our forebearers died for; Dedication, Devotion, Discipline, Selflessness, Sacrifice, Service and Loyalty to party and country.

We congratulate the rank and file of the party for the recent widening of our democratic frontiers. We have shown that we are true pacesetters in the evolution and development of democracy in this country and Africa. We call on you all to rediscover your conviction that the NPP is the only party that can take Ghana to its preferred destination. Let us work hard to ensure that we recapture power in 2012 because we cannot afford to disappoint Ghanaians. For God and Party

Signed:
