MPs begin debate of president's address

Parliament yesterday began a debate on the President?s State of the Nation address delivered in the House on February 3.

Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo, Ghana?s education and sports minister, who moved the motion for the debate, said the promise given by President Kufuor that his Government would pursue more level-headed and prudent policies in the election year to ensure that no harm was done to efforts made in the preceding years has been fulfilled.

Mr Maafo, also the former minister for finance and economic planning, added that inflation was better in December than in November, growth at the end of the year was 5-8 per cent compared to a projected 5.2 per cent, while all other indicators were positive. Seconding the motion, the NDC MP for Bole Bamboi, John Mahama, thanked the President for his State of the Nation address, saying the message was different from earlier ones made to the House.
