NPP targeting 2 million votes in Volta Region

With the growing hardship in the country and the loud impatience with the National Democratic Congress' (NDC) government, the opposition New Patriotic Party projects it will gain about 2 million votes more in the NDC stronghold, the Volta region.

Electoral Commission’s statistics has it that, during the 2012 general elections, there was higher voter turnout in the Volta Region to the extent that the only parliamentary seat won by the NPP four years ago in the Nkwanta North Constituency was lost, making the Volta region the only region in which the NPP has no MP.

But a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa constituency, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, has predicted that as the 2016 general election draws near, the New Patriotic Party is targeting about 2 million votes from the region.

Though this might sound paradoxical, Mr. Jumah stated on OKAY FM that out of “hunger” and “regrets,” people in the region were banking all their hopes on the NPP to come and alleviate them from their pain.

“People in Volta Region are hungry and dying, and they have now regretted they voted for the NDC,” he said.

His optimism stems from President Mahama’s hopes of raking in about one million votes from the Ashanti Region, the NPP’s stronghold for his party.

President Mahama is reported to have said during his recent visit to the Ashanti Region that the chances of increasing the National Democratic Congress’s votes in Ashanti Region looks positive in 2016.

But with an improbable supposition, Mr. Jumah doubts President Mahama's vision would ever manifest in the Ashanti Region to be specific.
