Sir John: Pianim is not an NPP member

The New Patriotic Party has rejected claims by a founder-member, Kwame Pianim, that the posturing of its spokespersons contributed to its electoral defeat.

Mr. Pianim told XYZ News that apart from the unstructured nature of its communication system, the NPP has also not been attractive to the floating voters.

He attributed this to what he calls the aggressive demeanor of some of their spokespersons.

But NPP General Secretary Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie disagrees.

“This is a yesterday’s man…he doesn’t understand politics…there are people who like the style of the aggressive speakers, there are other people who also like the calmness”

“But it is a combination of the two and we blend to make it work and that is why we won the elections. If he thinks we did not win, that is entirely a matter for him [Kwame Pianim] but we won the election”

Mr. Pianim also criticized the NEC of the party over its directive for NPP MPs to boycott certain constitutionally mandated events.

He is calling for an Emergency congress to take a decision on the matter.

But Mr. Owusu Afriyie says Mr Pianim has no locus in the party to make such demands.

“On what basis is he speaking, he may be a sympathizer of the party and so do we have several sympathizers. Over 5 million people voted for the NPP and he may be one of them but it doesn’t give that right”.
