The flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s logic that insofar as nobody has leveled corruption charges against him; makes him a corruption clean politician is gradually sharing dovetails into what could eventually hit the last nail on his political coffin.
To what many describe as a political faux and a miscarriage of illusion been thrown around by the NPP flagbearer and his communicators, the President and flagbearer of the ruling National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama has offered a well tailored response that is set to drag the logic into an abyss
He noted that it is a "shame and a disgrace" for Nana Addo to personally mount a political platform and say that nobody has leveled any form of corruption against him.
President John Mahama’s spokesperson, John Jinapor, using Nana Akufo-Addo’s own logic, wondered if it will serve the right purpose should President Mahama also mount a political platform to say that because nobody has tagged him with wee smoking, he is better than Nana Akufo-Addo?
He was however quick to point out that the president would not do that because it is sordid, adding that such a campaign tactics is infantile which must not be allowed to thrive in our body polity.
John Jinapor was reacting to statements by a Deputy Communication Director of the NPP, Yaw Buaben Asamoah, which among other things suggested President Mahama’s inability to confront and fight corruption within his own party and to the serious allegations of corruption raised against his persona.
His pronouncement comes in the wake of thunderous and incessant proclamations by Nana Akufo Addo that nobody has leveled any form of corruption charges against him; therefore “he is not corrupt”.
"I thought that anybody who wants to be elevated as president wouldn’t reduce himself to that level...mere corruption allegation isn’t enough; if you make an allegation back it with facts", President Mahama’s spokesperson told ‘Ade Akye Abia’ Morning Show on Okay FM in Accra.
The presidential staffer asked if it would be prudent for President Mahama to say that because nobody has indicted him for smoking marijuana he was better than NPP flag bearer, Nana Akufo Addo.
"Can our president stand on a platform and say that because nobody has tagged him with wee smoking, he is better than Nana Akufo-Addo? Our president would not do that because it is sordid. Children can use that tactics but as leaders, you don’t reduce yourself to that level".
Allegations of drug use over the years, has been an albatross that has been tightly fixed around the neck of Nana Akufo-Addo to the extent that the former United States Ambassador to Ghana, Pamela Bridgewater, on the profile of NPP presidential aspirants ahead of the 2008 elections described him as a drug user.
“For the NPP flagbearer to proffer such logic in determining the guiltiness or otherwise of a person base on mere allegations without prove, it would then not be out of place to use the same logic on him with issues relating to drug use. But you see, we will not descend into the gutters like him” John Jinapor added
The Presidents spokesperson alleged that members in the NPP have resorted to lies and public deception, in their attempt to clinch political power in this year’s election.
He accused the NPP of using awkward and communist inferior approaches to forcibly dress President Mahama in a corruptible garment which doesn’t fit his impeccable status.
