Asante-Akim North District Assembly inaugurated

The newly created Asante-Akim North District with its headquarters at Agogo has been inaugurated amidst fanfare.

Hundreds of people from the various communities thronged the Agogo College of Education Park to be part of the historic event.

In attendance to add colour to occasion were the three paramount chiefs in the area, Nana Kwame Akuoko Sarpong, Omanhene of Agogo, Nana Frimpong Afoakwa II, Omanhene of Domeabra, and Nana Kwame Agyemang Teatoa, Omanhene of Juansa.

Performing the inaugural ceremony, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah said the district provides a unique opportunity to inject pace into the socio-economic development of the area.

To achieve this however, the assembly, traditional rulers and the people would have to work together with a sense of unity and purpose, he explained.

Dr Agyemang-Mensah expressed satisfaction with the unity and harmony they had demonstrated since the announcement of the creation of the new district.

The assembly later elected unanimously, Mr. Owusu Amoako, an Assistant Headmaster of the Konongo Odumase Senior High School (SHS) as its Presiding Member (PM).

This was after his two other contestants, Nana Wadie Tenkorang and Mr. Ahmed Omar Ampong had withdrawn their nominations.

The election was supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC).

The new district, carved out of the Asante-Akim North Municipality, now known as Asante-Akim Central, shares boundaries with Sekyere East, Kwahu South, Sekyere-Afram Plains, Asante-Akim South and Asante-Akim Central.**
