NDC presidential aspirants must make undertaking 96 Mintah

Winneba (C/R), July 6, GNA - A founding member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Kofi Mintah, has urged the leadership of the party to compel its two aspiring flagbearers to make undertaking to ensure their followers comport themselves during and after the party's congress.

He said the undertaking should assure the party of their commitment to the NDC no matter who becomes the Presidential candidate for the 2012 elections.

This, Mr Mintah said, would ensure that the party comes out of the congress more united and ready to campaign for electoral victory in 2012.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Winneba, Mr Mintah, who was the first Central Regional Chairman of the party, said the undertaking would prevent the loser from breaking away from the party with his or her followers to form another party or join other parties.

He appealed to members of FONKAR (Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings) and GAME (Get Atta Mills Endorsed) to exercise circumspection in the choice of their words during the campaign, saying insults and mudslinging would not augur well for unity in the party.

"Let us remember that the aspirants are from the same family and are competing for the betterment of the NDC," he said.

He said events in the party were of primary concern for the nation since the party is in power, so Ghanaians were eager to see the success of the congress.

"Let us therefore show the highest maturity in handling the congress," he said and appealed to the delegates and the observers to refrain from acts of hooliganism and other activities, which could disturb peace and make the NDC's opponents to see them in bad light.

Mr Mintah reiterated his appeal to the delegates to make wise decisions, which could make the party to stand the test of time.

He reminded the delegates that the fate of the party lay in their hands so they must not toil with it.
