National Executive Meets Parliamentary Caucus

The leadership of the NPP led by the National Chairman, Mr Jake Obetsebi Lamptey have met the members of the Minority Parliamentary Caucus in Accra today. Present at the meeting were members of the National Executive and Minority Members in parliament. Also present were some Heads of Departments of the NPP or their representatives.

The meeting Chaired by the National Chairman, addressed various issues pertaining to the way forward for the party. It will be recalled that the NPP a few weeks ago in Kumasi held its 2010 National Delegates Conference that saw the election of a new crop of executives. Since the new leadership took office, there have been several meetings to access the state of the party at various levels but this was the first for the Minority as a team.

Today’s meeting was therefore convened by the new executive to interact with the parliamentary team which is an important arm of the party. Several issues came up for discussion both from the executive side and also the parliamentary caucus. Some of the issues discussed bothered on finance, assets of the party, national restructuring of the party which has been ongoing since 2009, parliamentary primaries and election 2012, 2010 National Congress to elect the flag bearer for the 2012 elections.

In addition, the roles of members of parliament in the day to day running of the party in the various constituencies also took centre stage.

Both sides however called for subsequent meetings and urged the leadership to deliberate on how soon to hold the primaries to set the stage for the party to overhaul itself in unity towards running a formidable campaign for the next elections. The leadership of the party expressed their willingness to work as a team with the parliamentary caucus in steering the NPP to victory in 2012. On their part, the MPs pledged their support for the new leadership and promised to work hand in hand for the success of the party.
